Yoga / Core Power Yoga![]() Core Power Yoga is a western adaptation of Ashtanga Yoga emphasizing intuitive training with energetics and a fitness-based approach. Practiced in a heated, climate-controlled room, it is a vigorous program designed to stimulate, detoxify and strengthen the body and mind. What is Core Power Yoga? The style of yoga is multidisciplinary, combining a variety of traditional and nontraditional schools of yoga into one high-intensity, cross-training method of yoga. Power Yoga Power Yoga was initially developed as a means to introduce a new concept of yoga to the West. It is a fitness-based yoga loosely modeled after traditional Ashtanga Yoga, whereby a rapid succession of movement, known as Vinyasa, is thought to develop both mind and body balance. Vinyasa Yoga means to connect from one movement to the next with controlled breath, also known as Vinyasa Flow. Moreover, Vinyasa Yoga is a diverse and open-ended style of yoga that does not necessarily follow any set poses, sequences or philosophies. Thus, Power Yoga does not follow a set series of Ashtanga poses and stretches. The introduction of Power Yoga with its Vinyasa approach opened the doors in the West for an alternative to gentler forms of yoga that were instructing in the practice of meditation, static poses and stretches. Power Yoga brought yoga to the mainstream gym, and it may appeal to you if you are looking to get more physically fit through a multidisciplinary approach combining strength training, flexibility and aerobic activity. Core Yoga Core Yoga sometimes conjures up ideas of core strength training associated with Western weight training techniques. However, in yoga, there are many styles of Core Yoga techniques, such as Kundalini Core Yoga poses. The difference is that the core of inner strength is rooted in breath. With Power Yoga, core energy strengthens the upper body, particularly the abdomen and back muscles through Vinyasa movements and a combination of strengthening and balancing poses. Hot Yoga Hot Yoga is a term for all types of yoga methods that use the benefits of heat during the practice of yoga. Methods of yoga associated with a heated environment include Bikram, Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga. A Hot Yoga space is usually heated anywhere from 90-to-120 degrees F., with humidity levels controlled at 50% to 60%. Hot Yoga is beneficial in minimizing muscular injuries, increasing flexibility and increasing detoxification through the elimination of sweat. In fact, the therapeutic benefits of Hot Yoga are believed to be many: Increased cardiovascular performance Strengthens immune system Reduces muscular/joint inflammation and injury Increases flexibility Promotes weight loss Promotes relaxation Power Vinyasa Core Power Yoga, also referred to as Power Vinyasa, is a multidisciplinary yoga embracing Hot Yoga, Power Yoga, Core Strengthening Yoga and Vinyasa Flow. It combines music, energetics and movement in a heated environment to promote strength, vitality and inner focus.
