Patanjali, often called ‘the father of yoga’, compiled his thoughts and knowledge into his comprehensive work ‘The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali’. The original maestro would only be proud to see the power and reach that Swami Ramdev has had in the field of Yoga and Pranayam globally. It is therefore befitting, that when the trio of Swami Ramdev along with Acharya Karamveer and Acharya Balkrishna decided to construct a world class institution to practice, preach, and teach Yoga in India, they decided to name it Patanajali Yogpeeth.
About Patanjali Yogpeeth
The Divya Yog Mandir Trust was started in 1995 in Kankhal, Haridwar. Patanjali Yogpeeth is an offshoot of the Divya Yog Mandir Trust. Located on the Haridwar-Delhi highway at Kankhal, about nine miles from Roorkee, the ambitious project, in its first phase was made operational in April 2006.

The Patanjali Yogpeeth was born out of the need to set up a grand institution to practice and research Yoga and Ayurveda. It houses a university for Yoga studies, a department for Naturopathy, an in-patient facility, an outpatient department (OPD) catering to 5000 patients everyday, and a pathology laboratory for treatment and research. It also comprises of a residential complex comprising AC and non-AC rooms, restaurants (Anna Purna Food Court), and a Yoga hall. The Library at the Patanjali Yogpeeth is dedicated to restoring and digitizing ancient yoga and medicinal texts.

Started in India, the Patanjali Yogpeeth now has Seva Kendras (service organizations) in USA and UK for the promotion of its philosophy to a global audience.

Swami Ramdev is a tour de force of Yoga and Pranayam. He is believed to have studied Yoga in various gurukuls and meditated in the Himalayas. He captured the popular imagination through his television programmes. It is his simple philosophy combined with wit and anecdotes that has helped to popularise Yoga in India and abroad in the recent years. Swami Ramdev holds yoga camps where he teaches Pranayam en mass.

Swami Ramdev and his Yoga teachers at the Patanjali Yogpeeth believe that the discipline of Pranayam should be made accessible to a larger number of people. There is an urgent need to displace it from the pedestal of mystique, practiced only by the masters to unleash their Kundalini Shakti (Mystical strength).
